Arizona Water Polo Events Calendar
 
 
Summer 2008 Water Polo Clinics and Youth Sessions

All events are at ASU Mona Plummber Aquatic Center, 601 S College Ave Tempe, Arizona (across from the football stadium). Participants should bring towels, sun screen and appropriate swimming attire. Register at the entrance to Mona Plummer or on the pool deck with the coaches.

May 17, 2008 Free Clinic
Running from 9 am to 11:45am. No experience necessary, appropriate for all ages. Basic instruction with some 4 on 4 scrimmages.

May 17th, 24th and 31st - Junior Water Polo for ages 6 and Up
In the ASU shallow pool. Learn the sport and play from noon to 1:30 pm. This is a lot of fun for young swimmers and is played with smaller equipment. $5 per lesson.

June 7th 2008 Free Clinic

July 16-19th  Sparky Summer Water Polo Camp with the ASU staff.

USA Water Polo Referees Clinic:

The high school, local leagues and other clinics are growing and we are opening up paid referee slots for local envents. We also use the referees clinics to teach parents and friends more about how the sport is played.
We are planning a USA Water Polo referees clinic for July. To register notify ryan.castle@asu.edu

2008 ASU Sparky Summer Camp is coming: Attend the Summer camp this summer to build your skills meet new friends and learn from the ASU staff.

The 2007 Camp attracted players from Nine USA water polo zones and included international players as well.

Desert Dual March 14-16, 2008
 

 

 

March 2008 was the the 18th annual tournament

Team entry costs were $600 for the Mens side and $500 for the Womens.

The Desert Duel features full bracket for competition along with after tournament events at local restaurants and is a national tournament featuring both a mens and co-ed division with over 24 teams.

High School Invitational Tournament
Feb 29th - March 2, 2008

 

Friday, Feb. 29
Officials and coaches clinic 5-9pm (Classroom Only)

Saturday, Mar. 1
Players and Coaches Clinic 8 - 10pm (Pool only)
I would also encourage any kids you have who are interested in coaching or officiating in the future to attend.

Saturday - rest of day
Regular tournament schedule with approx. 2-3 more 1hr. breaks for coaches and officials activities. We may need a classroom depending on the weather)

High School Water Polo

Clinic and Tournament Location:
The final location is pending but will be communicated by the
end of January.

The tournament schedule will be based on the number of teams and format but is designed for high school level athletes to allow for a competitive weekend of water polo along with an opportunity for new coaches and newly certified referrees to gain experience.

Free Arizona Water Polo Skills Clinic - August 18th, 2007
 

Who: Swimmers and Athletes interested in learning more about water polo, ages 10 - 18
When: Saturday August 18th 9:00 am to 11:45 am

Cost: Free. Register at the front entrance.

Additional Info: The Sun Devil Water Polo Association will be hosting a free water polo to provide orientation and skills development to youth players and athletes interested in the sport. No water polo experience is necessary. Participants should bring towels, sun screen and appropriate swimming attire. Register at the entrance to Mona Plummer between 8:30 and 9:00 am.

June 2007: The 2007 ASU training camp program was a great success with participants from over 5 US Zones. The camp included training, fundamentals and scrimmaging. Conducted by the ASU Varsity Womens staff it also offered coaching mentor positions to coaches seeking more expeience.

USA WATER POLO HOLIDAY CAMP AT OLYMPIC TRAINING CENTER  
December 17th to December 20th 2006: The Holiday Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado will begin at 4:00 PM on December 17 and end late at night on December 20 (travel home on Dec. 21).  The camp is for male and female athletes who are in 7th or 8th grade AND who are 13 or 14 years old.  Athletes must be registered USWP and U.S. Citizens.  Athletes selected are responsible for their own transportation to/from Colorado Springs and the camp will cost them $175, Mountain Zone athletes will receive a $50 discount paid for by the mountain zone program.
